The Training Facility

Hi! I’m Paul.

I have been an Athlete all my life. I played AAA Hockey and Provincial Rugby in Saskatchewan at Notre Dame. Following that, I moved back to Ottawa to play football for the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees. I was a multi-sports athlete for most of my life. While at uOttawa, I also played for the Men's Rugby team. This continued and allowed me to play with Men's Club Rugby, the Bytown Blues.

Throughout all of these sporting endeavors, I found powerlifting. It started as an adjunct to sports, getting me stronger for the field. However, my passion grew slowly, and I decided to transition into full-time, competitive powerlifting. I have been competing for 4 years, during which I have continued to develop my knowledge and understanding of strength training and nutrition. I practice what I preach, and the principles that I stand behind are what I want to share with you.

My personal bests in the 220lbs Weight Class are:

- 705lbs Squat

- 402lbs Bench

- 650lbs Deadlift

I enjoy helping people reach their goals – and helping people reach and surpass their potential is even better. Below, I share my thoughts on training and the training facility.

They say a gym is an extension of the owner's beliefs and vision, so let me share mine. I have always been and will be a part of the lifting community. Building The Life Of Strength is my way of ensuring I remain part of it and help show people the impact a training facility can have on their lives.

While the high-end, competition-specific theme makes this gym awesome, what makes it great is the people who choose to train here – and spend their time and money to be here. I founded and developed this facility to give back to the lifting community that has given the people around me and myself so much.

It has given me a better perspective on life. And as a mental health advocate who had some major struggles to get to this point, I wanted to create a facility that doesn't just strengthen the body but the mind, soul, and life as a whole.

Training with Me, Paul Hewitt

Training over the years has made me realize that technical efficiency is the key to elite performance. I took power and figure-skating lessons as a kid to prepare for hockey. I showed up already knowing how to crossover and pivot forward to backward, while others were still just trying to handle a puck. This mentality and work ethic carried over into everything I did; I always wanted that extra edge over others.

After hockey, I switched to playing football and rugby at a varsity level. Because of my later start, I wasn't the most experienced in either of these sports. But I made up for what I lacked in years with my training. I was always the first one in the weight room and the last one to ever back down from a challenge. That noted, I do believe rest is a weapon.

Work with me, and I will help you learn the difference between flying into the Sun and flying closely around it without getting burnt. My point is that hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

I coach so that I can help you be better. That means I won't just send a program and leave you to figure things out. Instead, I will review your training videos and provide constant feedback. I work with you to ensure your lifts look good, feel good, and that you get stronger and achieve your goals.
